Capella University Phd Graduate Receives Nursing and
Mentoring Awards
Robin Stewart, who graduated from the online university in
2005, honored by Girls, Inc. and Polk County Nursing Consortium.
Minneapolis (PRWEB) June 14, 2006 -- Robin Stewart, a PhD
graduate of Capella University’s School of Human Services,
has received central Florida’s 2006 Polk County Nurse
Manager of the Year award, as well as the “She Knows
Where She is Going” award from Girls, Inc.
Stewart, who says she grew up in poverty and is the youngest
of four children, explains that the award from Girls, Inc.
is given “to women who have faced a lot of adversity.
Women who overcome life's most difficult challenges to achieve
academic and professional excellence.” Stewart put herself
through school as a single mom while working full time.
Capella is an accredited online university and a leader in
online education. Stewart, who is the director of clinical
research for Lakeland Regional Cancer Center in central Florida,
graduated with a PhD from Capella in 2005.
“I really wanted to graduate from an accredited university,
but I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started at Capella.
I had a feeling it might be more difficult not being in a
classroom with other people, but I soon figured out you are
in a classroom with other people, just in a different way.
I was concerned that it might not be to the same caliber as
a brick-and-mortar school, but I found it was superior to
any of the programs I had seen,” Stewart says. “When
you become a PhD, you suddenly have a great deal more respect,
and within the medical community that is exceptionally important.
The additional education I have received from Capella has
helped me look at things more globally, and that is a great
benefit in the work world.”
